Legislative Insights

MCAA’s Legislative Committee, composed of seasoned correctional professionals, is dedicated to enhancing public safety through informed decision-making.

The committee plays a critical role in reviewing relevant legislation and offering insights that guide policy development. Throughout each legislative session, it monitors numerous bills that will impact correctional operations and submits both in-person and written testimony on the most significant initiatives. This ensures that the interests and expertise of the correctional community are clearly conveyed to House of Delegates and Senate committees.

The Legislative Committee also meets directly with senators and delegates to discuss key issues and advocate for policies that support the correctional system.

Additionally, the committee partners with the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) to strengthen its advocacy efforts. As each legislative session approaches, the committee continues to track new bills, reinforcing its role in shaping effective and informed public policy.
