Legislative Insights

MCAA’s Legislative Committee, made up of seasoned correctional professionals, is dedicated to enhancing public safety through informed decision-making.

It plays a key role in reviewing relevant legislation and providing insights that guide policy development. During the 2024 legislative session, the committee tracked 62 bills and submitted both in-person and written testimony on 8 of them, ensuring that the interests and expertise of the correctional community were effectively represented to the Executive Board and General Membership.

The committee also met with senators and delegates to discuss key issues and advocate for policies that support the correctional system.

Additionally, the committee continues to partner with the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) to strengthen its advocacy efforts. For the 2025 legislative session, the committee is actively tracking additional bills to continue its role in shaping effective and informed policies.
