Monica Thomas graduated from Towson University in May 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology & Anthropology and a concentration in Criminal Justice. She began her career at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in April 2011 as a correctional officer. In 2015 prior to promotion, Monica was tasked with assisting in the research, development, and implementation of a Pre-Trial Supervision Program.  In November 2015, Monica was promoted to Inmate Services Coordinator, recently retitled, Classification and Offender Re-Entry Case Manager.  Monica currently serves on the Adult Recovery Court Team for the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court’s Adult Recovery Court. In February 2019, Monica was hired as an Educational Instructor for the College of Southern Maryland’s Police and Public Safety Academy- Special Police Officer.

Monica’s essential duties at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center (but not limited to) are: liaison with criminal justice agencies, determining inmate eligibility to participate in various programming, performs initial risk assessments to determine custody status, develops, implements and expands existing programming for the inmate population, determines and/or calculates inmates release dates in accordance to the state laws, ensures extradition of inmates wanted in other local, state, and/or federal jurisdictions, ensures inmates files are maintained and contain accurate, up to date documentation, and oversees the Offender Re-Entry Program.

Monica is a lifelong Maryland resident. She currently resides in Lusby, MD in Calvert County.
